Osare Editions
A forlorn semi-silhouetted humanoid portrait stares out from the cover of the OE001. It’s a somewhat austere painting by Tornike Bendeliani, a strikingly perverse and stately image that embraces the label’s intent. This relatively new venture from the DJ Elena Colombi - March this year saw OE008 take shape - plants the flag of ‘free-spirited musical abandon’ (Elena’s words.) Certainly there is something of a nihilistic New Wave fervour about much that hounds our heads; It figures that a DJ’s born need to whip up dance floor commitment is behind it all. Osare’s fast pace catalogue is punctured by some further experimental explorations, once again that coveted space between dancefloor and concept is occupied and explored. Osare draws us towards the future, these sounds contain much of what we want and fear, uncontrolled & relentless business indeed.
Where are you from?
Italian blood, nomadic spirit!
What do you do?
I recently read an article daring people to avoid this exact question when meeting someone new and the results were fantastic. Less social constructions. Isn’t that wonderful?
Still, this is a Q+A so let’s see if I can answer in less obvious terms: Clubs and radio, cooking and walks, plants and scents, way too many flat moves and a new (orgasmic) drum machine I’m getting to spend some time with.
Earliest musical memory?
Why did you start a record label?
The label started almost by accident, following the work of the Greek wizard Zlatanos. Shortly after I was sent the first Free Range demo and immediately I thought: ‘mine’!
How would you describe the label’s sound?
Osàre stands for bold, unexpected choices. There are no restrictions in terms of sound as well as geographic areas, era or even what the output / object or final experience can be.
Some insight on the mix you recorded ?
The OG mix was recorded for you around a year ago. It showcased a lot of inspiring women - past and present - in music and art.. it was closely connected to the ‘Donne Che Corrono Coi Lupi’ release that came out last December on Osàre!. For this reason when you announced a long delay of the Oddity website / project I thought it might be best to air that mix via NTS [04.10.21] instead, keeping it close to the release date of the cassette.
So the mix I am sending you today is mix #2 : A selection focussing entirely on upcoming artists and music on Osàre!.
Some of the music might not come out for a while, so the track-list is partly top-secret. Still, I couldn’t think of a better way to showcase what the label is all about!! I hope you enjoy it.
